Itinerary

Day 1 Airport/Mahiyanganaya

Arrival at Colombo International Airport Here, you will be met by a representative of Anbruce Travels. After the formalities at the airport, you will be escorted to your air – conditioned vehicle. Next, transfer to your hotel in Mahiyanganaya and check-in to hotel to stay at leisure the rest of the day.

Nestled in the heart of Sri Lanka’s scenic Uva Province, Mahiyanganaya is a peaceful village steeped in history, culture, and natural beauty. It’s the perfect escape for travelers seeking an authentic rural experience. Start your day with a refreshing hike through lush greenery to a nearby hidden waterfall. The trail winds through forest patches and small streams, offering birdsong and fresh air all along the way. A dip in the cool waters at the base of the falls is the perfect reward.

After the hike, enjoy a wholesome traditional village breakfast, served under the shade of a tree or in a local home. Expect freshly prepared dishes like kiribath (milk rice), lunu miris, roti, and sweet halapa – all made with locally sourced ingredients.

After the breakfast at hotel you’ll transfer to kandy. In Kandy, you’ll explore the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, a revered Buddhist site, a Gem Museum, and enjoy a traditional Cultural Dance Show in the evening. Stage 1 of the Pekoe Trail is a beautiful introduction to Sri Lanka’s central highlands. The hike begins in Hanthana, just outside Kandy, winding through lush tea plantations, pine forests, and misty mountain ridges.
The path is a mix of village footpaths, tea estate roads, and natural trails. Along the way, you’ll pass tea pickers at work, encounter local wildlife, and catch panoramic views of rolling hills that seem to stretch endlessly.

As the raft slices through the frothing rapids of the Kelani River, a surge of adrenaline pulses through my veins. Towering rainforest trees arch overhead, their lush canopies dripping with emerald leaves. The air is thick with mist and the earthy scent of wet foliage. All around, the forest hums with life — the melodic calls of tropical birds echo through the greenery, weaving a natural symphony that dances above the roar of the water. Between the bursts of white water, calm stretches allow me to take it all in: vivid kingfishers dart across the river, and distant monkey calls blend into the jungle chorus. In Kitulgala, the thrill of rafting collides beautifully with the serenity of untouched nature.

The journey began with a breathtaking train ride through Sri Lanka’s lush hill country, where the landscape unfolded like a dream — endless green tea plantations, mist-covered valleys, and cascading waterfalls around every bend. The open doors and windows of the train allowed the cool mountain breeze and scent of fresh tea leaves to sweep in, making the ride feel like a scene from a postcard.
After arriving in Ella, we set off on a hike to Mini Adam’s Peak.
Later, you will make your way to the iconic Nine Arch Bridge, one of Sri Lanka’s most photographed landmarks. Framed by dense jungle and echoing with the distant sounds of birds and rustling leaves, the bridge is a marvel of colonial-era engineering. As the train crossed it slowly, I stood watching from a nearby viewpoint, soaking in the magic of it all.

Yala National Park is the most visited and second largest national park in Sri Lanka, renowned for its vibrant wildlife, including elephants, monkeys, and leopards. The park’s varied landscapes of dry woodlands and grasslands create a stunning backdrop for activities such as jeep safaris, bird watching, and nature photography. With a rich array of over 200 bird species, it’s a paradise for birdwatchers. Visitors can also enjoy luxury camping experiences within the park.

Begin your day with a visit to the iconic Coconut Tree Hill in Mirissa — a stunning cliffside dotted with tall, swaying palm trees overlooking the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean. It’s the perfect spot for breathtaking views, peaceful reflection, and those picture-perfect moments.
Next, head to the historic city of Galle, where you’ll explore the legendary Galle Fort — a UNESCO World Heritage Site blending rich colonial history with vibrant local culture. As the sun begins to set, enjoy a peaceful walk along the ramparts of the Dutch Fort, with golden light casting a warm glow on the old stone walls, the ocean stretching out beyond.
The rest of your days are left unscheduled, giving you the freedom to relax, explore at your own pace, or simply soak in the tropical serenity.
